Georgia has many delicious traditional foods, my favourite being Khachapuri Imeruli. This cheese filled bread hails from the Imereti region, but can be found in most parts of the country - it is a filling snack that can enjoyed as a basic and inexpensive meal in itself, and is often best experienced in a basic city café washed down with local wine.

Caucasus & Central Asia Holidays

The three countries of the Caucasus occupy a stunning strip of mountainous land wedged between the Black and the Caspian Seas. Each has a border with the other two, yet they could hardly be more different. Three unrelated languages are spoken here, and two different religions hold sway. However, the Muslims of Azerbaijan and the Christians of Armenia and Georgia all have robust pagan roots, share a love of life and a strong culture of hospitality, home and hearth.

The dazzling diversity of Central Asia has drawn travellers for centuries. The colourful cohabitation of Asian and Russian, Islamic and communist and the eclectic mix of ancient and modern, create the drama of life in Central Asia today. Although we only feature itineraries including Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in our Russia to the Far East Brochure 2010, we can tailor-make itineraries to all five of the republics, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, that make up Central Asia.
